World’s Largest Responsible Business Festival Comes to Wirral with Showcase Sustainability Event

Pioneering Wirral businesses that are embracing carbon zero practices are set to share the secrets of their success at a showcase sustainability event this March.

The two day event, in partnership with Wirral Council and with contributions from LJMU amongst others, is part of the 2022 Good Business Festival – the world’s largest responsible business festival – which is being staged in venues across the Liverpool City Region and will explore how the business sector can help solve the world’s greatest challenges.

Taking place on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd March, the Wirral event will be curated and hosted by five local enterprises, who are all a driving force for culture and innovation-led regeneration in Birkenhead; Bloom, Convenience Gallery, Start-Yard, MAKE CIC and Future Yard.  These enterprises, located in Argyle Street and the surrounding area, are all developing and adapting successful zero to low carbon delivery models and will host exciting sessions across 2 days to encourage sharing best practice and building upon positive endeavours already underway in the borough.

Wirral business leaders and entrepreneurs are being urged to play their part by attending the event, which is one of a series of ‘Greater Good’ showcases designed to bring the Good Business Festival closer to regional business audiences.

Each regional event will complement a topic being tackled by The Good Business festival, taking expert thinking on important issues and translating it into relevant, practical and inspirational knowledge for local SMEs, business communities, start-ups and budding entrepreneurs.

The Wirral event, which focuses on ‘Going Carbon Zero’ will offer local businesses an opportunity to engage with and learn from other local and national organisations about the realities of the carbon zero approach.

Nathalie Candel from Future Yard said: “Here at Future Yard, we have committed to a long-term goal of becoming the UK’s first carbon neutral grassroots music venue. We are delighted to be curating a day of debate, performance, celebration and dialogue as part of The Good Business Festival. We will officially launch and discuss our Future Yard Sustainability Roadmap, and explore how the DIY music sector is responding to the climate emergency, discuss the power of music in the climate debate and the impact of live touring, while shining a light on emerging collective action in the creative space. The event culminates in an evening of live performances, headlined by anarchic punk and grime duo Bob Vylan.”

Chris Lee from Start-Yard added: “As a creative biosphere at the centre of Birkenhead’s waterfront providing a modern solution for people in the formative stages of their business development, Start-Yard is keen to help drive the carbon zero agenda forward and implement more responsible business practices that contribute to the greater good. We are looking forward to contributing to the debate and demonstrating how a commitment to improving sustainability can be delivered through practical advice. We are looking forward to sharing our own successes and challenges experienced on the journey to carbon zero as well as hearing from industry experts.”

No fee is charged for tickets, which can be accessed via: The Good Business Festival website.

Cllr Tony Jones, Chair of Wirral Council’s Economic, Regeneration and Development committee added: “We’re proud to be part of this two day event. These local enterprises are benefiting from the £25m Town Deal for Birkenhead, which supports our long-term vision, but already they are creating positive changes in the town while putting sustainability at the heart of their operations.  The practical action being taken by these organisations is contributing to Wirral’s target as a place to reach ‘net zero’ emissions for the borough as a whole no later than 2041.

“Taking part in the 2022 Good Business Festival is allowing these organisations to reach new people and speak directly to Wirral’s business community. It’s a fantastic opportunity to highlight their achievements and encourage others to make this important shift.”

The headline Good Business Festival programme will take place in Liverpool from the 22nd to the 24th March. For more information or to register for your free tickets visit: thegoodbusinessfestival.com/going-zero-carbon-with-wirral
