X Factor winner and former soap star Shayne Ward to join celebs in charity football match in aid of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital

Actor and singer Shayne Ward, who is best known for winning the X Factor in 2005 and playing Aidan Connor in Coronation Street, is the latest star to join a dazzling line-up of famous faces putting on their football boots later this year to raise funds for children receiving treatment at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. 

 

The star will be gracing the Crewe Alexandra FC’s Mornflake Stadium on Sunday, May 1, alongside Soccer AM presenter Tubes, TV personality Calum Best and TOWIE stars Dan Osborne and James Argent. 

 

Love Island contestants Jake Cornish and Luke Trotman will also be showing off their football skills, alongside EastEnders stars Jake Wood, who played Max Branning, Dean Gaffney, who portrayed the role of Robbie Jackson, Matt Lapinskas, who starred as Anthony Moon and Danny Hatchard, who played Lee Carter. 

 

Also taking to the pitch is former Crewe Alexandra player Steve Walters and The Real Housewives of Cheshire cast member Joe Sealey, whose dad, Les Sealey, played in goal for Manchester United. 

 

In the coming weeks, more celebrity stars participating in the game will be announced, organisers have said. 

 

All of the stars are subject to work commitments. 

 

The match has been organised by Sellebrity Soccer, which was launched in 2012 to help charities raise money by arranging all-star football matches across the UK.

Kevin Cooper, Sellebrity Soccer’s Co-Founder, said: “We really cannot wait to visit Crewe Alexandra FC for the first time with our two celebrity teams on Sunday, May 1, 2022. 

 

“As always, it will be a great family day out which will provide first-class entertainment with lots of goals from the celebrity players. It will certainly be a day to remember.”

 

He added: “The funds raised from this match will help some of the most vulnerable children in Liverpool. 

 

“We hope lots of people will attend the match and get behind the teams – the money raised will change the lives of ill children living in Liverpool.”

 

The game will kick off at 3pm on Sunday, May 1, however doors will open from 1:30pm. 

 

Standard tickets cost £12 alongside an additional booking fee or people can upgrade to a VIP package for £30 per person.

 

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital treats more than 333,000 children every year and is one of Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospitals. 

 

The hospital treats everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions.
