ICAEW Manchester welcomes new joint leaders

ICAEW Manchester welcomed new joint leaders at its AGM yesterday. With a new structure, designed to enhance the Society’s involvement in the community while it continues to provide its traditional support for members, Rod Sellers takes on the role of President with Michael Colin becoming the first Chairman of the Society.

Rod, who succeeds Jon Scopes, has spent over 50 years in finance and corporate roles and was awarded the OBE for services to business in the Northwest in 2004. As President, he will represent Manchester’s 5,800 Chartered Accountant members and seek to further develop ICAEW influence and contribution in the regional business agenda and links with local universities.

Michael, who is a past president of ICAEW Manchester and ICAEW Council Member, will provide administrative and governance support to the Society, to leave the President free to expand the society’s influence and contribution across Greater Manchester, especially the professional and business community.

Speaking of their appointments, Rod said: “Michael and I are excited by the opportunities, uncertainties and challenges that the post-covid period presents, and we look forward to supporting our members in remaining at the forefront of evolving technology as we seek to build on the initiatives of our predecessors.  It is an honour for us to represent our profession in Greater Manchester and we look forward to renewing old networks and making new friends.”

Michael added “Challenges include resetting the respective roles of the Society and ICAEW to ensure we do not overlook important subjects and improving our understanding of the current needs.  All this needs to be done within the framework of voluntary and professional resources”.

At the AGM on Tuesday 17 May, the committee was joined by members of ICAEW Manchester, some of whom were celebrating 50 years of ICAEW membership.
