UKCM Expands Mobile Fleet in Response to Customer Demand, Asset Tracking & Container Safety

Leading container repair and refurbishment specialist UK Container Maintenance (UKCM), has expanded its fleet of rapid response vehicles and mobile engineers.

The company has upweighted its operational capability to meet the significant increase in demand for their Mobile Inspection Engineers to visit client premises for container repair and refurbishment, installation of container tracking devices and also undertaking any LOLER and statutory testing.

The LOLER surveys involve a systematic and detailed examination of the equipment and safety-critical parts, together with certification to evidence compliance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations governing all operations and equipment that involves lifting people, goods and equipment at work.

Danielle McIntosh, Onsite Manager at UKCM explains: “Organisations are increasingly asking for the repair and servicing to be carried out at their own depots, reducing their container supply and maintenance costs, in addition to lowering their carbon footprint with unnecessary collections and deliveries. Due to a significant rise in existing and new customers moving towards our onsite services, we are continuously looking to expand our services and increase how many mobile units and skilled engineers we have on the road, allowing us to cover more of the UK while ensuring we keep to our timely lead-times.

“The engineers complete the full range of required repair and refurbishment tasks, in addition to coded welding, installation of our Asset Tracking devices,  LOLER testing, fitting of new parts, reshaping, site audits, repainting and signage application, and other essential requirements which can be tailor-made to the customer’s needs. The repairs undertaken by the crews are completed to the same exacting standards as those carried out at our main facility. Our onsite engineers are the face of UKCM, and we are constantly reassured by the work they carry out from the positive feedback from our customers.”

UKCM’s Technical Director, Mark Roberts added: “The safe operation of waste and recycling containers is paramount to UKCM and we understand the need for Local Authorities and Waste Companies to follow these strict health and safety regulations to carry out the periodic testing of their recycling banks that are operated by the wire and pulley systems and in the public domain.

“These systems enable the doors of the bank to be released when it is lifted and the contents of the bank to fall into the recycling vehicle. It is these systems that need to be inspected to make sure that they are in a good working order, no breaks and no fraying of the ropes.”

The UKCM Mobile Inspection Engineers are national and travel to each site carrying out a survey of the banks and supplying a detailed report confirming if the bank is fit for purpose, or if the bank is defective and unsafe for use until the repairs are carried out and another LOLER and PUWER test is performed.

Established in 1998, UKCM, the UK’s largest family-owned container repair and refurbishment company is dedicated to the refurbishment of all types of waste and recycling containers. UKCM works across the country offering waste companies and local authorities’ mobile repairs, as well as factory-based services at its head office located in Winsford, Cheshire.

The process brings old, and often unwanted, waste containers back to life instead of them going to scrap. The business model – refurbishment over replacement – is simple and for a third of the price of replacing a container, UKCM can restore the unit to full working order.
