Manchester Airport PLC (MAG) has let 33,000 sq. ft. of its prime warehouse space at World Freight Terminal to local 3PL and freight forwarder Blacksmith Freight Services.
Blacksmith Freight is a local logistics company, currently undergoing significant expansion due to the surge of ecommerce since the start of the pandemic. The large warehouse unit will be used for storage and distribution functions, whilst the business operations will remain at its existing 12,000 sq. ft. office and warehouse space at the freight terminal.
Roger Black, Group CEO of Blacksmith Freight said: “As a local business, we are pleased to be able to occupy such prime warehouse space. The location at Manchester Airport offers excellent connectivity for our clients, and this new facility will enable us to continue to deliver high quality and customised service to our customer base and partners, both in the UK and globally.”
The World Freight Terminal at Manchester Airport accounts for the employment of more than 1,000 people, handling cargo carried on both freighters and passenger aircraft. Other occupiers on the estate include dnata, Swissport, Kuehne+Nagel and FedEx.
Matthew Bird, Head of Investment Assets at MAG comments: “We are delighted to complete a 33,000 sq ft letting within our transit warehouses to Blacksmith Freight, supporting their continued expansion and ongoing commitment to the Manchester Airport location”
It is anticipated that the acquisition of the new warehouse space will support regional talent and the local economy with the creation of a wide range of new job opportunities.
