Crag Spring Water Becomes First British Winners at International Water Tasting Competition

  • Crag Spring Water awarded Silver award at Taste and Design Awards in Los Angeles
  • First ever British winner at International Awards

Cheshire-based spring water brand, Crag Spring Water has won Silver in the Sparkling Low Minerality category at The FineWaters International Water Tasting Competition Taste and Design Awards 2022 which was held in Los Angeles on Saturday 27th August 2022.

The jury panel spanned a team of international water sommeliers, experts and educators including Water Sommelier and US TV personality Martin Riese, LA-based Water Sommelier, Justin Takashi Glascock, the COO and Co-founder of Salacious Drinks LLC, Ashley Epperson, Water Sommelier and Co-Founder of Tahoe Artesian Water, Simona Celante, Water Sommelier and an Associate Professor of Environmental Science, Dr. Elena Berg and FineWaters founder, Michael Mascha.

Talking of the award success, founder of Crag Spring Water, Doran Binder said:

“Winning Silver is a dream come true, it’s an absolute honour to be recognised by the world-leading fine water experts and the panel of judges. Crag is the first British water to ever be awarded an honour at the awards ceremony so I’m incredibly proud.”

Doran Binder founded Crag Spring Water back in 2016 after discovering a source of the exceptionally high-quality, mineral rich spring water flowing deep in the ground right under the pub he had just bought in Cheshire. Whilst setting up the business, Doran quickly realised the high interest in the water not just locally, but from fellow sommeliers across the pond.

“The interest in the water became immediately obvious to me whilst setting up Crag Spring Water. I have previously been offered $50 a bottle from one American drinks manufacturer to export the water to connoisseurs across the pond. Although I turned down the deal due to differences in their approach to sustainability, it was at that point when I realised the aquifer I’d found in my basement had the potential to be internationally recognised as a truly supreme water.”

When asked about what the win means for the Crag Spring Water brand, Doran said,

“I think it elevates us to another level, to be recognised as an award-winning fine water. A dream come true.”
