North-West patisserie company wins Building Futures Kickstart Award

Warrington based patisserie business, The Chefs Patisserie Company have been awarded the prestigious Small and Medium Enterprises Recognition Awards by Department for Work and Pensions for their role in the Kickstart scheme.

Following on from the launch of Kickstart scheme in July 2020, The Chefs Patisserie Company have taken on seven Kickstart apprentices providing full time roles for five young people aged 16-25 based in the Warrington area.

Chief Executive of Warrington Council Steven Broomhead visited the patisserie company’s headquarters discussing the work the business had done in providing youth opportunities for local young people.

Managing Director of The Chefs Patisserie Company, Emma Smith said: “When we first started working on the Kickstart scheme, we could see the potential to really support and nurture young talent within our production unit. As a growing business the Kickstart Scheme gave us the opportunity to train and develop some amazing young people and we are delighted to see how they have progressed within the business.

“We would like to say a huge thank you for this award and look forward to continuing to work with young people as our business expands.”

Colin Billingsley, Strategic Employer and Partnership Lead at Warrington Jobcentre said: “The Chefs Patisserie Company have really got behind the Kickstart Scheme and provided opportunities to young people with some incredible feedback. We are delighted that they have been recognised for this by the (SME) Recognition Award and would like to thank them for the positions created within their business.”

The Kickstart scheme was launched in July 2020 by the Government and provided funding to create new jobs for 16–24-year-olds on Universal Credit. The funding covered 100% of National Minimum Wage for 25 hours per week for 6 months, associated National Insurance contribution and enrolment pension contribution.

The aim of the scheme was to create long-term job roles for young people providing an environment to gain invaluable skills and training for future careers.

The Chefs Patisserie Company launched in 2020 and specialises in creating artisan patisserie and desserts for the hospitality industry operating nationwide.
