3 Reasons Manchester is an Ideal City for Young Professionals

The UK is full of bustling, vibrant cities. Each of them offers something a little bit different and appeals to different groups and types of people.

Traditionally, London is regarded as the ultimate destination for young professionals. However, in recent times we’ve seen a shift away from the nation’s capital, with more young people coming to realise the benefits of living and working in the UK’s other major hubs. Manchester is certainly one of these cities, why is such an ideal location for young professionals? Let’s find out.

It’s An Affordable Place To Live

London is one of the most expensive places to live in the UK. This means that for young people just starting out in their careers, it isn’t the most suitable of destinations. Young professionals might find that they are spending more than they can afford simply on their rent.

On the other hand, Manchester presents a much more affordable option. You will be able to get a bigger and better located property in Manchester than you would be able to get in London. However, young professionals may still be living in relatively small homes, be it in London or Manchester. For this reason, saving space is a premium. If you have a lot of excess clutter, you should check out some Manchester self storage options and free up some space in your home.

It Has A Thriving Business Sector

The business scene in Manchester is thriving and looks set to grow even more as we head into the future. In years gone by, we’ve seen some huge companies come out of Manchester, including Umbro and JD Sports. More recently, we’ve fashion brands like Misguided and Boohoo come from the city, a testament to the health of Manchester’s business sector.

The city has also seen development and has had a number of brands open up branches there, including TV studios from the BBC and ITV. This means that Manchester is not short of opportunities, with young professionals flocking to the city to take advantage of the numerous job offers.

It Has Fantastic Social Scene

London is often lauded as a socialite’s paradise. That is certainly still the case, but other UK cities are fast becoming serious rivals to London’s social and nightlife scene.

Manchester is certainly no exception, there is an incredible range of things to see and do for young professionals in the city. Manchester is home to some fantastic eateries and restaurants, including Mana, which was the first Manchester restaurant to be bestowed the honour of a Michelin star.

Manchester also has a nightlife scene fit rival any of that elsewhere in the UK. Joshua Brookes, Club LIV and Mayfield Depot are all hot spots that attract thousands of young adults every weekend. The city is also home to the music event series known as the Warehouse Project, which invites some of the world’s most in demand performers and artists to events held in venues across the city.

Having a good work-life balance is absolutely crucial and promotes good mental and emotional wellbeing. It’s important for young professionals that they are based in a city that can provide them with good career opportunities and options for meeting friends, socialising, and enjoying themselves.

Conclusion

London may be the first place that comes to mind when we think of young professionals, and for years it certainly was the premier destination. However, rising prices and developments elsewhere have seen a shift towards some of the other UK cities, Manchester in particular. We can expect to see more of this in the future as young people look to take advantage of these new opportunities.
