WALKING FOOTBALL TEAM SCORES NEW KIT

A WOMEN’S walking football team is modelling a brand new kit after receiving a donation from Redrow’s community fund.

Affiliated to 1874 Northwich Football Club, the team was launched in October 2021. Aimed at women over the age of 40, the team gives them the opportunity to stay active, enjoy playing football and engage with like-minded people in the community.

After using hand-me-down bibs and footballs, the team applied for a portion of Redrow’s community fund so they could have their own kit and new equipment.

Louise Smith, player and committee member at the club said: At the first training session, only four women turned up. We now have over 25 active members, and the sessions are so popular we train twice a week.

“Some women had never played football prior to joining the team and are improving their skills week on week. We inherited old bibs and worn out footballs, and while we were grateful to have this equipment given to us, we wanted to take the team to the next level and Redrow’s donation has helped us do this.”

The team’s next step is to enter competitions and arrange friendly matches with other walking football teams.

“Our new kit and equipment will give us a real sense of belonging and team spirit. We are so proud to represent our club on the pitch.”

The team is raising awareness of the opportunities available to women over 40 wanting to take part in team sports and improve their overall wellbeing. The sessions are engaging, inclusive, fun and welcome all abilities.

Caroline Thompson-Jones, area sales manager at Redrow NW said: “At Redrow we know how important creating a sense of community is and that is exactly what the Women’s Walking Football Team does. It’s an opportunity to try something new and we are really happy that we’ve helped the team buy brand new kits and equipment. We wish them all the luck with future wins!”

The community fund donation is linked to Redrow’s Hartford developments, Weaver Park and Water’s Reach. Both located on Woods Road they currently have a selection of three and four-bedroom properties for sale.
