Survey Highlights Lack of Career Guidance Awareness Among UK’s Youth

Youth Group, a leading organisation dedicated to youth employment with a membership exceeding 1.7 million, has released new data shedding light on the significant lack of access to support and guidance that young people face when embarking on their careers in the challenging UK job market.

According to a recent study conducted by Youth Group, three-fifths (63%) of 18–25-year-olds are unaware of the existing career advice resources available to them. Furthermore, nearly half (48%) feel restricted in accessing vital career guidance.

These findings coincide with the highly anticipated launch of Season 3 of “My Duvet Flip: The Careers Show for Young People,” hosted by the UK’s Chief Youth Officer, Jack Parsons.

Season 3 of “My Duvet Flip” is supported by returning partners Aviva & EY, who are now joined by leading UK jobs platform Totaljobs.

The research conducted by Youth Group exposes a significant gap between the guidance currently provided and the needs of young job seekers. The majority of young people (aged 16–24) are simply unaware of the available career advice resources. Additionally, 48% expressed limitations in accessing these resources and the advice they sought.

In response to this evident gap in careers guidance, the highly anticipated third season of “My Duvet Flip: The Careers Show for Young People” is returning this July.

Totaljobs, a renowned UK recruitment solutions provider and part of the global digital recruitment platform The StepStone Group, is well aware of the challenges faced by young people in the UK. Their own report on the nation’s future talent, released in October 2022, revealed that 48% of 16-18 year-olds believed they were not receiving adequate career advice at school.

With over 20 years of experience in helping individuals find the best job suited to their life circumstances, Totaljobs aims to empower and inspire the youth of the UK through its partnership with “My Duvet Flip.” Together, they seek to bring together exceptional guest line-ups and provide educational and job advice that instills confidence in young people across the UK, enabling them to achieve their employment goals.

In Season 3, presented by Jack Parsons, UK’s Chief Youth Officer, candid conversations with global business leaders, entrepreneurs, and politicians will continue to engage viewers. The show delves into their career journeys, extracting valuable tips and advice from their experiences. It also offers insights into what motivates these leaders to succeed and how they maintain a positive mindset.

Season 2 of “My Duvet Flip” boasted an impressive lineup of guests, including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Debbie Hewitt (FA Chairman), Sebastian Dettmers (Chief Executive Officer of The StepStone Group), and Matt Brittin (President of Google Europe). The second season garnered 9 million views and generated over eight times more engagements compared to the previous season.

Jack Parsons, CEO of Youth Group and the UK’s Chief Youth Officer, expressed his excitement for the third season of “My Duvet Flip,” stating, “The podcast is all about supporting the millions of young people across the UK and empowering them to achieve their goals.”

Sebastian Dettmers, Chief Executive Officer of The StepStone Group, remarked, “I am proud that Totaljobs will now be a partner of ‘My Duvet Flip’ for the 3rd season. This fits very well with what we do at The StepStone Group and at Totaljobs, where we help find the right job for everyone.”

Phoe

be Barter, Group Brand Director of Aviva, stated, “I’m proud that Aviva will partner with My Duvet Flip for another season. The range of issues Jack and his guests speak about – from mental health and student pressures to career uncertainty and the cost of living – are really important to me and Aviva colleagues. We’re committed to helping people solve their financial puzzles.”

With multiple accolades already to his name, including being recognised as LinkedIn’s ‘Top Voice for Young People’ and ‘Top 15 Young Entrepreneurs to Watch,’ Jack Parsons hopes that the third season of “My Duvet Flip” will inspire young individuals across the UK to realise and fulfill their potential.
