Thallo, an innovative climate technology company, has revealed an upcoming registry integration with the well-established SOCIALCARBON, a standard-setter endorsed by ICROA. This integration is a significant step forward in connecting carbon credit ecosystems with strong community co-benefits.
SOCIALCARBON, known for its emphasis on nature-based solutions that yield measurable benefits for local communities in terms of social, environmental, and economic aspects, becomes the third registry to integrate with Thallo’s pioneering two-way carbon bridge. This bridge acts as a secure conduit for transferring carbon credits onto and off a public blockchain. The inclusion of “Social Carbon Units,” SOCIALCARBON’s distinct credits, is a valuable addition to Thallo’s existing partnerships with Puro.earth and BioCarbon Registry. These registries predominantly issue engineered carbon removal and nature-based carbon avoidance credits, respectively.
Ryan Gledhill, Co-founder and CEO of Thallo, expressed the significance of this collaboration: “Today’s announcement is a pivotal move towards granting our customers access to the entire carbon market. We are excited about our integration with SOCIALCARBON, a standard that not only shares our dedication to environmental and social progress, but also embraces cutting-edge technology for innovation.”
Mike Davies, CEO of the Social Carbon Foundation, highlighted the benefits of this partnership: “We’re enthusiastic about collaborating with key industry players to enhance the value we offer to our network of project developers and buyers. This integration will introduce additional liquidity avenues for project developers who adhere to the SOCIALCARBON Standard, further aiding them in delivering tangible impact.”
Thallo has already launched its Carbon-as-a-Service initiative, enabling customers to employ Thallo’s two-way bridge to access blockchain-tokenised carbon credits. The Thallo carbon marketplace, set to launch in the coming months, will facilitate direct transactions between carbon buyers and project developers.
SOCIALCARBON, renowned for its holistic international Greenhouse Gas (GHG) standard centred on Nature-Based Solutions, has transitioned from a co-benefit standard to a full-fledged standard in 2022. The organisation lists six projects thus far, with an anticipated pipeline of 30 projects in 2024. Backed by ICROA endorsement and conditionally approved under CORSIA, SOCIALCARBON operates a blockchain-based registry. This platform harnesses state-of-the-art technology to enhance the auditability, transparency, and security of SCUs (Social Carbon Units) issued under its standard.
