What Should You Have in Your Office Kitchen?

If you’re trying to run an effective business, then staff morale is paramount. Underlying this is the quality of your kitchen. Everyone working on your premises can benefit from access to a functioning kitchen area. It’s a place for informal collaboration and socialising – as well as actual eating and drinking.

But if your kitchen is to fulfil all of these functions, then it will need to be appropriately kitted out. Let’s take a look at a few of the more essential components of a great office kitchen.

Hot drinks

Your kitchen’s primary function is probably generating a steady stream of tea and coffee. Hot drinks and biscuits can provide exactly the pick-me-up your workers require during their breaks. You might stock it with several different varieties of tea. Why not keep a jar full of matcha tea, peppermint, green tea etc. On the other hand, it’s probably best to avoid intensely smoky teas, like Lapsang Souchong.

Cutlery and crockery

If you don’t have enough cups to hand, then someone is always going to be disappointed in their search for refreshments. Ideally, you’ll want everything that anyone could wish for, including bowls, plates, glasses and cutlery. Depending on the food and drink that people are consuming, you might want a slightly different mix of supplies. Or, you can encourage your staff to bring their own supplies.

Don’t forget the necessities

There are certain things that are almost certain to be needed. Milk will almost certainly never go bad, provided that you buy it in small enough batches, and there’s someone there to drink it. The same goes for condiments like ketchup and mustard.

Your staff might have individual tastes that lead you to make different choices when it comes to supplies. What matters is that there’s a process in place for replenishing the fridge, and that no one feels left out.

If you’re looking to promote healthy living in the workplace, then a bowl of fruit might be just the thing. You might even arrange for a fresh bowl to be brought in every morning, so that everyone can be sure that the apple they’re about to bite into will be crisp and satisfying.

Appliances

There are certain appliances that will get plenty of use in an office kitchen. These include microwaves, toasters, and (of course) kettles. Part of what makes these devices appealing is their flexibility and simplicity. You only need a power outlet to get them working, and they pose limited fire risk. What’s more, they can be easily moved from one place to another, or put away temporarily. The same cannot be said of a full-size cooker!
