The UK and Republic of Ireland will bid unopposed for the right to host Euro 2028 following Turkey’s decision to withdraw.
Turkey have instead opted to merge with Italy for the right to host the event in 2032, a decision that has been sanctioned by UEFA.
Both bids still require approval from European football’s governing body at their executive committee meeting next Tuesday.
UEFA said: “The presentations at that meeting will be an important part of the process which will take due consideration of the content of the bid submissions before reaching a decision.”
The UK staged the semis and the final at Euro 2020, a tournament that was played a year later than scheduled due to Covid. However, there was widespread disorder at the final between England and Italy with thousands of ticketless fans trying to gain access to Wembley Stadium.
