Macclesfield business enters fashion arena with tweed skirt offering

Elkin – a British skirt brand known for its hand-crafted pleated skirts – has launched a collection of contemporary tweed and woven garments, on the back of the pleated renaissance seen on global catwalks.
Established in 1956, the Macclesfield-based family business boasts the UK’s only steam auto-clave machines, which create its trademark sharp pleats and have powered the achievements of the mill, which has manufactured for designers including Paul Smith, Comme des Garcons and British sub-culture fashion brand, Underground.
Selling skirts and kilts direct to consumers online is a new direction for Elkin, which will also channel the range through independent retail partners.
A Spring Tweed Collection headlines the luxury range, with A-line and mini-kilt silhouettes, which are available from www.arthurelkin.co.uk
An exciting maternity kilt range is part of the first collection – a concept new to the market due to the expert tailoring required.  Designed to accommodate the changing shape of a pregnant woman’s body, the vibrant kilts feature a stretch basque comfort panel to provide a comfortable fit while allowing freedom of movement. Each piece is meticulously crafted with attention to detail, ensuring the highest standards of quality and style.
Elkin has always been dedicated to creating garments that reflect the rich heritage and culture of Britain.
Macclesfield itself combines town and country elements.  Known as ‘Silk Town’ for its prominent role in Britain’s silk weaving industry, it nestles in the foothills of The Peak District. With the introduction of its own name collection, Elkin aims to celebrate Britain’s traditional craftsmanship and its association with country living.
In addition to their focus on fashion and comfort, Elkin is committed to sustainability and ethical practices. Supporting local industries and promoting sustainable fashion practices, all fabrics used in their skirts and kilts are sourced from British mills, supporting local communities and reducing the brand’s carbon footprint.
