Police investigating altercation at Warrington Town FC fixture

Police have made an arrest following a violent altercation between supporters at the National League fixture between Warrington Town FC and Southport FC.

Video footage showed men throwing punches at the side of the pitch on March 5.

Officers have arrested a 45-year-old man from Warrington on suspicion of affray. He has now been bailed but the investigation is ongoing to identify all those involved in the incident.

PC Joshua Meakin said: “The actions of some involved in this incident is unacceptable. This type of thuggish behaviour will not be tolerated – people go to football matches to watch football. Fighting and causing trouble will result in police action being taken. We are fully committed to ensuring that people can attend matches and public events safely.

“I am pleased that an arrest has been made but we are still working to identify other people who took part in the violence that day. I urge anyone with any information to contact police.”

Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police on 101 or via www.cheshire.police.uk//tell-us quoting 24000237944.
