Fulham v Liverpool: Silva expecting Reds backlash after double setback

Fulham boss Marco Silva is expecting a backlash from Liverpool when they meet at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men saw their Premier League title challenge derailed by Crystal Palace last weekend and then crashed out of the Europa League after failing to overcome a 3-0 first-leg deficit against Atalanta last night.

Silva, whose side sit comfortably in mid-table, knows the Merseysiders will be eager to avenge those setbacks and get their season back on track.

He said: “What I know, and what I’m sure of, is that they are going to react.

“We all know Liverpool, we all know that they come from a really tough result in the Premier League, of course to be out of the Europa League was really tough for them as well.

“In 10 days, they lost the chance to be in the semi-finals [in Europe] and probably to fight to be in the final and they lost three points [in the league] that are really important for them, at Anfield which is not something that happens often.

“It is a game that is going to demand more from ourselves than if they had won the last two games.”

Fulham won 2-0 at West Ham last weekend and go into the game high in confidence.

Former Everton boss Silva added: “I think we’re in the best moment of the season. We haven’t had big injuries in the last month and a half, or two months. All the squad is available.

“It of course creates a competition inside our squad that helps myself and the players to reach a different level and good headaches for me to decide, which is always the better situation to plan a game and prepare for the next game.

“But I’ll repeat what I said, two months or a month and a half, or last month, yes we are in the best moment of the season.”
