Liverpool: Rep backs Slot to land Premier League title in first season at Anfield

Former Netherlands winger Johnny Rep believes it is possible Arne Slot will win the Premier League with Liverpool next season.

Feyenoord boss Slot is close to being named as Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Anfield – the clubs are widely reported to have agreed on a compensation package and personal terms are unlikely to be a problem – with an announcement expected sometime this week.

Liverpool’s quadruple bid has fallen off the rails in recent weeks with exits from the FA Cup and Europa League while some inconsistent league form means they now sit five points adrift of leaders Arsenal with three games remaining.

Rep believes Slot’s arrival will boost their chances of landing silverware.

He told The Sun: “Arne has what it takes to fill Klopp’s big boots and it’s possible he’ll win the Premier League in his first year.

“Arne has done great things at Feyenoord, winning both the league and the cup, and I can’t wait to see him do the same in Liverpool.

“He has all the credentials to manage a club as big as Liverpool because he’s simply an excellent coach.”

Replacing Klopp will not be an easy task but Rep believes the Liverpool fans will quickly be won over by Slot’s style of play.

He added: “Arne was influenced by Johan Cruyff’s Total Football and loves to set his teams up on the front foot.

“But even though the offensive side of his game is the one that stands out, his teams are defensively adept, too.

“He will also improve Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch and bring some Feyenoord players with him.”

Slot’s Feyenoord are set to finish second in the Eredivisie this season. The Rotterdammers trail leaders PSV Eindhoven by nine points with three games remaining.
