McLaren’s Lando Norris has had his say about his on-track rivalry with Max Verstappen following last weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, noting that Verstappen “knows he did wrong” in their battle.
Verstappen, driving for Red Bull, was handed two separate 10-second penalties for his actions during the contest with Norris.
“Max knows what he has to do. He knows he did wrong, deep down he does. And it’s for him to change, not me.
“Max is one of the most capable drivers on the grid, if not the most. He knows what he can and can’t do and what the limits are.”
As the Sao Paulo Grand Prix approaches, Verstappen remains 47 points ahead of Norris in the title race with just four races remaining.
In response, the Dutchman said: “I don’t listen to those individuals. I just do my thing. I am a three-time world champion.

“I think I know what I’m doing.”
Verstappen’s racing tactics have been questioned after two major incidents in recent races.
In the United States Grand Prix, Norris was penalised five seconds for overtaking off-track— an incident many drivers later argued was influenced by Verstappen’s defensive moves.
A week later in Mexico, Verstappen was penalised twice after forcing Norris off the track during separate moments in their battle.
When asked if he would adjust his approach, Verstappen added: “It’s my 10th year in F1. I think I know what I’m doing.
“Do I think it’s over-regulated? Probably yes. In general, the rule book is only getting bigger and bigger every year, and I don’t think that’s always the right way.”
Verstappen also alluded to inconsistent penalties from the FIA, pointing out that he faced repercussions for swearing in Singapore while no action was taken after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc did the same in Mexico.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s race, Verstappen is expected to receive a five-place grid penalty due to taking a new engine. However, Red Bull has yet to confirm the move.
