Char.gy Becomes a B Corporation

Char.gy, a prominent UK operator of electric vehicle (EV) charging points, is proud to announce its certification as a B Corporation. This achievement places the company among a global network of businesses prioritising purpose alongside profit, affirming its dedication to delivering positive social and environmental outcomes.

The certification, granted by B Lab, the organisation behind the B Corp movement, requires companies to meet stringent standards of accountability, transparency, and social and environmental performance. For Char.gy, this milestone supports its mission to create a sustainable, inclusive EV charging network while contributing to the UK’s shift towards greener transport.

With over 3,600 public charging points powered by 100% renewable energy certified by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs), Char.gy focuses on making EV charging accessible. The company supports the 40% of UK households without off-street parking, aiming to enable more than one million drivers to charge their vehicles reliably by 2030.

John Lewis, CEO of Char.gy, said: “We’re thrilled that Char.gy has achieved B Corp certification with a score of 100.2, meaningfully above the 80-point threshold. This milestone is only the beginning – being a B Corp means committing to continuous improvements, with recertification required every three years. As part of the process, we’ve also updated our Articles of Association, formally embedding Char.gy’s dedication to goals beyond shareholder profit. This change ensures that our commitment to positive impact and sustainable growth will continue to guide us far into the future.”

Surface transport accounts for nearly 25% of the UK’s carbon emissions. Char.gy addresses this challenge through innovative measures, including reducing emissions intensity per charge point and adopting sustainable manufacturing practices to minimise embodied carbon. The company’s goal is to halve emissions intensity by 2030, using 2023 as a baseline.
