Aspire UCS Addresses Training Gaps with New Veterinary Ultrasound Phantom

Aspire UCS, based in Wrexham, has launched an innovative training phantom aimed at addressing the veterinary industry’s growing need for ultrasound education and mentorship.

Founded by Angie Lloyd-Jones and Julie Burnage in 2016, Aspire UCS leverages expertise from human healthcare to create impactful solutions for veterinary professionals. Their state-of-the-art phantom, developed over two years, was officially launched at the London Vet Show this November, offering a controlled environment to enhance ultrasound skills.

Aspire UCS helps veterinary practices optimise the use of their ultrasound equipment, addressing a lack of training that can lead to unnecessary procedures and misdiagnoses. Their mission is to instil confidence in veterinary professionals, enabling more accurate diagnoses and better patient outcomes.

With over 85 years of experience in Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound and 15 years in veterinary scanning education, Angie and Julie bring unparalleled expertise to their work. Both hold diplomas in Diagnostic Radiography and Medical Ultrasound and have extensive leadership experience, ensuring Aspire UCS delivers high-quality training and mentorship.

Transitioning from human healthcare to the veterinary sector presented challenges, with some critics questioning their move. However, their approach, influenced by human sonography’s stringent reporting requirements, has elevated standards in veterinary ultrasound training.

Aspire UCS’s contributions to the field have been recognised globally. In 2022, their veterinary ultrasound guidelines received endorsements from leading organisations. They were also invited to support the establishment of the European Association of Veterinary Imaging Professionals (EAVIP), set to host its first conference in Barcelona in 2025.

The ‘Sonographer on Your Shoulder’ programme exemplifies Aspire UCS’s commitment to accessible learning. The programme has earned acclaim for its mentorship model, supporting veterinary professionals across the USA, Lebanon, and Portugal, among other countries.

Angie and Julie’s dedication to Aspire UCS includes reinvesting over £100,000 into the business and forgoing salaries to support its growth. Their efforts have earned them over 85 five-star Google reviews and a reputation for excellence in veterinary imaging education.
