Tomato Energy Unveils “Smart Energy Communities” to Drive Clean Energy Adoption in Social Housing

As part of the UK Government’s ambition to establish itself as a clean energy superpower, Tomato Energy has launched the Smart Energy Communities initiative, aimed at enabling social housing providers and local authorities to transition to renewable energy.

The programme is designed to help the UK tackle three major priorities: lowering energy costs, creating green jobs, and advancing climate goals. It puts local communities at the centre of the clean energy revolution by providing the tools needed to develop and sustain renewable energy projects.

Tomato Energy’s initiative aligns with the government’s Great British Energy Local Power Plan, which aims to establish 1,000 renewable energy projects, including 100 carports powered by solar and wind energy. These projects aim to provide clean, affordable energy to local communities while ensuring the economic benefits remain within the area.

Using a scalable Energy as a Service platform powered by Senapt, Tomato Energy equips social housing providers with the means to implement clean energy solutions immediately, with measurable results.

“By working within existing frameworks, Tomato Energy allows communities to start generating clean energy now without waiting for new regulations,” said Kenny Virdee of Tomato Energy.

“Our use of Senapt’s Energy as a Service software ensures that energy production and distribution is optimised, providing maximum value to residents.”

This initiative offers social housing providers and local authorities a chance to take meaningful steps towards achieving the UK’s clean energy goals while reducing tenant costs and promoting sustainability at the community level.
