Foundation 92 launches financial inclusion partnership with OpenMoney

Local financial advice business OpenMoney has announced a two year partnership with Class of 92 backed charity Foundation 92 investing £50,000 into a football focused financial literacy project aimed at supporting families and young people across the region.

The programme will offer bespoke financial support through mentoring, aiming to develop a greater understanding of how to lead a healthier financial lifestyle. The mentoring scheme will educate families and students on a range of financial areas including budgeting, credit, interest rates and online banking.

The scheme will see 15 families work with Foundation 92 and OpenMoney over a six-week period  delegating six hours per week to each family.

There will be two cycles of this with 15 families taken on per year.

Foundation 92 and OpenMoney’s collaboration programmes will run through Greater Manchester and will be taking referrals from across the region.

The programme will also be extended to 12 high schools, targeting those in Year 7 and 8 and particularly focusing on identifying young people who are living with additional needs and may be more vulnerable to financial exploitation.

By delivering a six week, in-curriculum course, OpenMoney hopes to equip over 360 young people with the skills to navigate their finances for day to day life providing advice that can be taken forward as they move towards managing their own finances.

High-schoolers across Manchester will get the chance to learn about bank accounts, managing their own money, online safety, identifying fraud, loan sharks, budgeting and debt collection.

The programme will begin in April and be delivered exclusively by Foundation 92.

Co-founder of OpenMoney, Anthony Morrow said “Helping people improve their financial knowledge and confidence to make better decisions with their money is something I am hugely passionate about. Being able to work closely with the Foundation 92 team to deliver this project will enable us to deliver the programme and provide education to those who haven’t been able to receive this elsewhere.”

Head of Foundation 92, Tom Hutton said: “We are delighted to partner with OpenMoney to deliver our financial inclusion programme which is hugely important in supporting many families across Greater Manchester. OpenMoney is a market leader and we are really looking forward to working alongside Anthony and his team.”

Foundation 92 focuses on supporting people to improve their lives through sport, with an emphasis on positive physical and mental wellbeing. It was founded in 2018 by Manchester United’s Class of 92.

OpenMoney is a financial advice service that works to ‘empower people to get in the best financial situation that they can’ by offering affordable and accessible financial advice to people that need it.
