DTZ Investors brings global cycling brand MATE to Manchester

King Street is set to welcome tenant MATE, as majority landlord DTZ Investors continues the street’s revitalisation.

MATE, which launched in Copenhagen in 2016, will take 1,674 sq ft of space at 50 King Street to launch its first UK retail unit outside of London.

Dubbed as the place selling the ‘coolest’ and ‘fastest’ e-bikes, the brand was launched to challenge urban traffic congestion, climate change and health issues and holds the mantra ‘more miles on bikes’.

Founded in 2016 MATE designs and sells the sleekest, fastest and most versatile, foldable eBike on the market.

The new shop in Manchester will sell a selection of the brand’s best-selling bikes as well as a number of their MATE accessories and apparel range including a selection of bags, pedals and handles.

Tom Royston, director at DTZ Investors said: “We are delighted with the progress at King Street since taking our majority acquisition within the shopping and leisure district. We have experienced great success with the tenants attracted and have a range of exciting openings over the course of the next few months.

“Welcoming a global brand like MATE will complement the other brands and operators whilst adding a unique offering to the street. We are really looking forward to their opening and working with such a globally recognised brand.”

The deal was completed by joint agents Lyons Thompson Letts / Orme Property on behalf of DTZ Investors and follows a string of successful lettings at King Street.

In the past year, King Street has celebrated a number of new openings welcoming Pretty Green, Crepslocker, George Thornton Art and Cinnabon.

DTZ Investors became a majority stakeholder of King Street in 2018 and has since worked to reposition the street to bring forward one of Manchester’s most creative and culture-focused city centre areas. The ambitious growth strategy has seen collaborations with global brands as well as increased flexibility for the street’s commercial tenants.
