Libby’s Care Is No Contest!

Local lady, Libby is helping older people beat the January blues with a bit of healthy competition – of the board game variety!

Home Instead Northwich and Knutsford explain: “As we age, keeping mentally fit is just as important physical exercise.  Playing board games are not only fun but can also have major health benefits such as relieving stress and combating memory loss and depression.”

Home Instead is an award-winning home care company which provides tailored support such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, personal care, shopping, and companionship for older people. Their new campaign ‘Not Just A Carer’ has been created to highlight their Care Professionals always go above & beyond.

Nick Hodgson, Head of Operations at Home Instead Northwich and Knutsford comments: “Many people Home Instead support simply want company and conversation, whether they live alone and cannot see their family and friends as often as they would like, or if they are recently bereaved and are finding it hard to adjust. Loneliness can have serious effects on a person’s health and Home Instead aims to prevent loneliness through companionship care.

“Our Care Professionals are hand-picked for their character and values and are expertly trained to support older people and their families. We do this to ensure we can closely match their interests, hobbies and personality with clients.”

So, when Libby discovered she and 68-year-old Bill from Northwich shared a love of board games, she arranged a trip to Board Beans café in Northwich, to enjoy a coffee and play a game from one of the 400 plus on offer.

Libby says “Bill and I really enjoy our games together. Our favourite is monopoly and playing in the café means we can enjoy the game with a cup of tea and cake!

It’s also lovely meeting others and having great conversations. I have never won a game, but I’ve always left the table with something more valuable.”

“I love my job, especially the feeling of making a difference to an older person’s life and to simply bring a smile to their day. When care is done the right way – no rushed visits and really focusing on the person and building a relationship with them – it is one of the most rewarding jobs ever, I’ve never felt like I’m just a carer.’
