Wrexham AFC back The Joshua Tree in supporting families affected by childhood cancers

The Joshua Tree children’s cancer charity will be the beneficiaries of a fundraising bucket collection which is taking place on Tuesday 21st February at Wrexham Association Football Club before their National League clash with Scunthorpe United.

The Joshua Tree team and volunteers, including Richard Williams, Director of Williams Financial Planning, Paul Hayes, Managing Director of Geotechnics and Ken Skates MS of Clywd South, will be present at the game to raise awareness of the charity and collect donations. All funds raised will go towards supporting families from the local community and beyond who are affected by childhood cancers. The team of volunteers will be on hand before the match at the turnstiles so be sure to show your support.

The Joshua Tree is a children’s cancer charity providing bespoke programmes of support to improve the emotional well-being and mental health of all immediate and extended family members who are affected by childhood cancers for as long as they need it.

Recent statistics have identified that 166 children and young people were diagnosed with cancer in Wales in 2019, and this continues to increase with population levels. Specifically, cancer rates in Wrexham are 20% higher than in the rest of Wales.

Richard Driffield, Joshua Tree CEO said: “I am thrilled to see my local team, Wrexham AFC, support The Joshua Tree and help to continue our vital work in the local community. The charity has grown considerably in the last 17 years providing vital support to all members of the family affected by a childhood cancer diagnosis. Over the past twelve months we have received an unprecedented number of new family referrals, of which 10 live in the Wrexham community. We are hugely grateful to the club for their support.”
