Number Plate Cloning Costs UK Motorists Millions in Fines

Number plate cloning is becoming a rampant issue across the UK, resulting in fines and legal troubles for thousands of innocent drivers, warn number plate experts.

Plates4less, a part of VRM Swansea, has raised the alarm after receiving more than 50 calls per week from affected drivers who fell victim to plate-cloning criminals and now face fines and legal actions.

These criminals employ cloning to commit various offenses, such as stealing fuel, accessing congestion zones without payment, and avoiding speeding tickets while evading accountability for their illegal activities.

Antony Clark, the Marketing Manager at Plates4less, expressed concern, saying, “We have been overwhelmed with calls from drivers. There has been a significant surge in number plate cloning over the past two years. Every single week, we receive between 50 and 100 calls from car owners seeking personalised number plates to distance themselves from the cloned registration mark.”

Plates4less offers cover plates as a cost-effective solution to help individuals change their vehicle’s registration mark to a non-personalised combination, thereby dissociating from the cloned plates.

Repeatedly dealing with fines issued by different enforcement agencies proves time-consuming and frustrating for car owners. As a result, many are opting to change their plates as a quick and practical way to tackle the problem.

Plates4less, based in Swansea, is dedicated to assisting clients from the UK and Northern Ireland in buying and selling private plates.

Antony also warned about the presence of unscrupulous companies and individuals involved in manufacturing and selling number plates, some of whom operate on online selling platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Facebook. These sellers often neglect to verify whether the buyer has the legal right to obtain a set of plates, despite it being a legal requirement intended to aid law enforcement agencies.

With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Plates4less garners customer loyalty due to its reputation for trustworthiness and reliable service. Their customers return to them, knowing they will be well taken care of, especially after being targeted by criminals, an ordeal no one should have to endure.

Antony emphasised that Plates4less is committed to resolving problems and extends exceptional assistance to their customers, particularly after they have suffered at the hands of criminals.
