Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool cruise to controversy-free win in the Europa League

Jurgen Klopp says there were “plenty of things to learn” from Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise.

After the VAR controversy at Tottenham that has dominated the news agenda all week, an incident-free victory was the perfect tonic for Klopp and his side. Despite a less-than-memorable performance on Merseyside, Liverpool now find themselves top of Group E with six points.

Speaking post-match, Klopp was short and sweet, simply saying: “Job done.”

He added: “You cannot only win if you are really excited. It is good for us as we can learn a lot from this game.

“With rhythm, we look one way and without, we look another. With exactly the same players. Plenty of things to learn, and we will use that.”

The win on Thursday night now means that Liverpool have won five consecutive home games in all competitions for the first time since a run of seven in January to March 2022.

Klopp was still well aware of where his side needed to improve, however.

He told TNT Sports: “Really good start. Lost the rhythm slightly. Gave too many set-pieces away. [We] lost rhythm and played too much around the formation and in the formation.

“Should have had more direction, and you take what you get in these moments.

“Professional, but we could have been better.”
