M6 car stop check sees man jailed for footwell Cocaine stash

Motorist Alexander Stacey has been jailed after a 3kg stash of Cocaine was found in the footwell of his car.

The 27-year-old man from Devereux Road, Wiltshire, appeared at Chester Crown Court where he was handed a three year, nine month sentence, having previously pleaded guilty to the charge of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Stacey’s brush with the law occurred on Monday, April 17, around 1.40pm, when officers patrolling the M6 highway in Cheshire intercepted his black Vauxhall Insignia.

The vehicle was initially flagged due to its lack of road tax, with an expired MOT adding to the list of violations.

During the routine stop, the vigilant officers conducted a thorough search, leading to the discovery of a backpack concealed in the car’s rear footwell.

Police believe the backpack contained three kilograms of cocaine, valued at an estimated £48,000 to £114,000.

Stacey was taken into custody and charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

The law enforcement authorities commended the collaborative efforts of the investigating officer, PC Harry Bayley of Macclesfield Area Investigation Team, and others involved in the case.

Detective sergeant Laura Fox said: “What started as a basic stop check resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of class A drugs. On top of that, Stacey is now behind bars facing the consequences of his actions. I hope that his sentence acts as a warning to others and sends out a clear message that if you come to Cheshire to commit crime, you will be caught and you will be brought to justice.”
