Altrincham TV journalist launches new podcast featuring successful business leaders

Nicola Sands – former ITV journalist and now founder of award winning North West production company Applehead Media – has launched a brand new series of business themed podcasts that uncovers exactly what makes successful business leaders tick.

First to be interviewed on Success Means Business is millionaire property developer Mark Dransfield. Hull-born Mark tells the fascinating story of how he overcame dyslexia and early knock backs to establish Dransfield Properties as one of the UK’s leading town centre regeneration companies.

Mark, who started out in the construction industry in Hull, talks openly about the people who shaped his journey and the personal and business setbacks which made him even more determined to keep going.

He said: “It’s easy sometimes for people to see the trappings of success and assume it’s been a seamless journey, but the truth is quite different and it’s great to have the opportunity to talk about that and to share my own experiences. Success rarely comes without some very stressful and scary moments and sleepless nights. I really hope that young people in particular, who are starting out on their own business journey, will enjoy this series and take something from it.”

Dransfield Properties works with all the major UK food retailers and was one of the first companies to bring the German discounters Aldi and Lidl to the UK market.

The Sheffield-based property company also owns and manages successful, award winning town centre developments, including Fox Valley in north Sheffield, Marshalls Yard in Gainsborough and Sanderson Arcade in the north east market town of Morpeth.

High profile guests

Success Means Business is focused on navigating the road to success by featuring a range of high-profile guests who talk openly about the personal and business challenges they have faced to reach the very top of their industry.

Nicola said: “I think we are all fascinated by the so-called secret of success, is it just determination when others would give up? Or is there something more than that? That is really what we want to explore with the Success Means Business series – we want to look at the remarkable personalities behind those success stories.

“We have access to some really amazing people who have shared their experiences so openly with us and we’re delighted to be bringing that insight to a new audience through this series. Our interviewees are all from very different industries and backgrounds and they all have really interesting stories to tell.

“Hopefully the series will inspire and motivate and show the many different routes there are to succeeding.”

Nicola Sands runs Applehead alongside her cameraman husband Steve. Filmed in the company’s Altrincham studio, Success Means Business is broadcast fortnightly through Spotify, Apple Podcast and Youtube.

The series digs beneath the surface with its guests, all successful high achievers who have shown incredible determination and tenacity in their industries. It uncovers the stories, challenges and triumphs of remarkable people who have carved their own path to success.

Future episodes will feature guests including:

Andrea Marando; The leading consultant plastic surgeon who now works in Manchester following a career which has seen work at the Marie Curie Cancer Institute in Paris and gaining a Fellowship in Breast Reconstruction at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan.

Dan Holland; CEO of the utilities company Network Plus talking about his journey in helping to take the company from a £40m business to a company worth in excess of £400m.

Other guests include a nationally renowned journalist, a world class sales expert, a stylist and a leading detective. All who have achieved success at the very top of their industries.
