Wallasey golf pro faces fear to raise cash for charity

A golf coach will face up to his fears of heights – by taking on the world’s fastest zip-fire.
Lee Corcoran (pictured) will tackle the Velocity Zip Line at Penrhyn Quarry in Bangor, north Wales, in a bid to raise cash for charity.
The 49-year-old from Wallasey has launched a crowd-funding appeal for Amy and Friends, which assists sufferers of Cockayne Syndrome. The syndrome is characterised by delayed development, short stature, an abnormally small head, and sometimes increased sensitivity to sound and light.
Lee has already raised £300 for the challenge, which will take place on March 8.
He said: “I’m a bit nervous, as I’m terrified of heights but this is a great cause so I’m determined to do it.”
Lee works at Foregolf in Sealand, Chester, where he has been the head coach since the summer of 2011.  His lifelong ambition was recognised when he became a qualified PGA Golf Professional in 2000 and went on to play two seasons on the European Challenge Tour prior to returning to his coaching roots.
Lee’s vast knowledge, expertise and understanding of the game have seen him rewarded with accolades such as twice being invited to teach at the British Open alongside some of the world’s esteemed and elite coaches.
The charity Lee is raising cash for is based in Wirral, and was set up in memory of Amy Hughes, who lost her life to the illness in 2020. It meets with families and specialists to share experiences, knowledge and encourages them to gain support from each other.
Amy and Friends supports families attending the Rare Disease Clinic at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and actively takes part in research programmes, working closely with a team of worldwide medical specialists.
It arranges for families to meet others in similar situations to themselves to help lessen isolation, build confidence, aid wellbeing and improve knowledge.
The charity also provides anticipatory grief and bereavement support, an annual retreat for families, and much more besides.
